Leander Michael Kelter
October 28, 1922 – January 7, 2021
Born in Martinsville, Wisconsin, last surviving child of a family of seven children. Raised on a family dairy farm in Cross Plains, Wisconsin. Enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 21 and served in the Middle East primarily in Persia (Iran today). He served from 1943-1946. After the war he returned to Wisconsin and a year later purchased a car and drove HWY 66 ending in Santa Monica, California. He gained local employment at General Telephone and joined St. Monica’s Catholic church where he met his future wife Frances. Married on August 16, 1952 they moved to Manhattan Beach, California where they had 6 of their 7 children. Moved to Huntington Beach, California in 1966 where their 7th child was born. He went to college for 25 years at night earning his BS in Engineering and MBA in Business. He retired from General Telephone after 37 years. He started a second career as a professor at CSULB teaching electronics for 10 years. After retiring from CSULB he traveled the world and traveled the United States in his “Big RV”. He had a wonderful life and may he rest in peace. He is survived by his 7 children, 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
